**NOTE: I’m not currently taking on new projects!**
Have you written an amazing book and want to self publish it but aren’t sure where to start? Are you an experienced author who wants to outsource formatting so you can concentrate on doing what you do best-writing?
There’s a lot that goes into formatting a book: designing a beautiful layout, making sure the e-book code will display correctly on the wide range of ereaders on the market today, and ensuring your PDF file meets your printer’s specifications.
I format everything by hand with a critical eye for getting all the details right so your book looks just the way you want. More than just a simple file conversion, I craft a book layout that’s worthy of the words you’ve written.
Making sure everything is just right takes time and knowledge-time that could be better spent writing your next book. Let me handle all the technical details so you can write your masterpiece and concentrate on getting it into the hands of the readers who will love it!

Why Go Custom?
The benefit of choosing to custom format your books is that you get control over the way your book looks. The automated formatting tools can do a lot, but you’re still limited to the templates they offer. When a book is formatted by hand you can:
• Add in extra pages that aren’t offered in the typical templates: maps for fantasy, a glossary, a list of character names, multiple call-to-action pages, or a section with book blurbs/endorsements.
• Customize the table of contents. Add images or other design aspects. Place it anywhere in the book you like: put it at the front of the book for poetry books, anthologies, or non-fiction, or at the back for novels. I can also include a multi-tiered table of contents for e-books (on certain devices). Some devices or apps support a multi-tiered table of contents where you can collapse and expand the top-level selection. This works great for non-fiction that has lots of sub-headings within a chapter, or anthologies where you want to give chapter links for each book. For devices or apps that don’t support this functionality the digital table of contents just displays like a regular one.
• Create a unique look for your book, such as with a customized title page, chapter heading art that represents your book, Raised or drop caps at the beginning of the chapter, or first line of chapter all in small caps (For e-books this isn’t supported on all readers or apps. When not supported, the text displays as normal).
• Setting the page the e-book will open to (such as your map page, or a quote that is placed before Chapter 1) without having to incorrectly label it a Prolog or Introduction.
• Images (in addition to your book cover): graphic for title page, map, motif images for chapter headings or scene breaks, photographs or illustrations throughout the text, author photograph, covers of your other books, etc.

E-Book Formatting
Pricing:
There is a $30 consultation fee on all new projects where we talk about what you are looking for with book design, which I then use to set up a style sheet for the project. This fee may be waived for successive books in a series when I can reuse the same style sheet. The pricing for the book formatting itself will vary depending on the level of formatting you need for your project:
• $5 per 10k words: Minimum formatting. Includes: basic chapter headings, no images, no scene breaks, no formatting to body text other than minimal italics. Will waive the consultation fee for this level
• $10 per 10K words: Light formatting. May include: basic chapter headings, multiple scene breaks, a few spots of formatting to body text (a poem, letter, quote, picture, ect…).
• $20 per 10K words: Moderate formatting. May include: elaborate chapter headings, multiple images, multiple areas of formatting to body text (bulleted lists, footnotes, customized table of contents, scene break images, multiple section breaks with headers, ect…)
• $30 per 10K words: Heavy formatting. Includes: Formatting on every page.• $25 minimum fee to edit an already coded book (to update front or back matter for example). Price will increase with complexity of work. I must review the book first to ensure I can accomplish your goals and to give you a quote. I will need an .epub of the book to make edits.
• $5 fee for each store-specific version of your book.
There is a minimum fee of $30.00 for all e-book projects. Price includes delivery of both an ePub and Mobi (AZW 8) file. All text is reflowable, meaning it’s ‘free-flowing’ on the page, instead of a fixed layout. Novels are reflowable. A cookbook is an example of a fixed layout, where the text has to appear in a certain place on a particular page. I validate your book through EpubCheck, which is the industry standard for ensuring the file is correctly formatted and will be accepted by the major distributors.
